Wireless Internet of Things (IoT) for structural monitoring

HW#3

The project optimises wired data logger construction using embedded sensing tech throughout the lifecycle. It employs technology developed by Worldsensing, that includes robust wireless low-power data loggers, embedded with sensors in concrete along with instruments like load cells, strain gauges, and pressure cells. Loggers connect to sensors, affix to precast segments, covered with wet recycled material forming smart concrete. These IoT loggers have a communication range of several metres and a ten-year lifespan.
Early monitoring provides key data for building integrity, minimises risks, and allows non-interfering long-term monitoring.

State of art and main challenge

Nowadays, wired centralised data loggers or simple junction boxes for manual data acquisition are connected and their use in construction is limited. Construction works must be halted to guarantee efficiency and the safety of the workers performing such tasks.
