When renovating residential buildings and districts, citizen engagement is crucial: as the end users of the refurbished spaces, understanding their needs, expectations, and acceptance of the change is key.

Considering the residents’ needs is central to REN+HOMES. While developing and testing technologies and methodologies to make homes more efficient, the project keeps the inhabitants informed and engaged, letting them have their say. The collection of ideas, completion of questionnaires, and delivery of workshops are just some of the activities carried out by the REN+HOMES consortium to create a real social impact.

Various social innovation activities were concluded or are foreseen. An International Advisory Board (IAB) was created to ensure the active engagement of residents, students, and experts. Explore&Design Labs with the IAB will serve to collect indications on technological criticalities and opportunities of positive buildings. Further Design Labs are being designed and will lead to the definition of objectives of change and to a roadmap for the conscious reduction of energy consumption for residents.

REN+HOMES is also launching an awareness-raising social media campaign in parallel with developing and implementing social innovation activities. The campaign carried out jointly with the GINNGER project, is aimed at engaging citizens and understanding the awareness of the issues addressed by the two projects. The hashtag #RegeneratingTogether will underpin LinkedIn and X the social media posts that will focus on people’s perception of the built environment and housing’s energy consumption. To do so, each post will ask an open question on these topics, aimed at triggering reactions and discussion.

Starting on 20 May, the campaign will present question cards each week, covering various aspects of housing and districts’ liveability and modernisation.

Follow REN+HOMES on LinkedIn and X social media and take part in the discussion.
