Work has officially commenced on “La Termal,” the Spanish pilot site of REN+HOMES project, located in La Garriga. Developed by EVOWALL in partnership with ROIG Construccions, the pilot consists in a multifamily residential building. And it forms part of an ambitious initiative to create Positive Energy Buildings (PEBs) that produce more energy than they consume.
The project consists of two four-storey buildings housing 14 flats, designed by Hem Green&Balanced Architecture in collaboration with sustainability experts such as Consorcio PassivHaus, Praxis Resilient Buildings, and Energiehaus. “La Termal” aims to achieve Passivhaus Premium certification, setting a benchmark for energy efficiency and environmental performance.
La Termal: an example of Innovative Construction for Sustainable Living
Built using the EVOWALL industrialised system, the project utilises prefabricated panels containing 30% recycled materials. This method significantly reduces construction time, minimises environmental impact, and ensures high-quality housing. The building will be fully electric, powered by aerothermal heat pumps and photovoltaic (PV) systems, with smart management technologies optimising energy usage.
Construction has begun with the basement phase, while assembly of the upper floors is scheduled for February. The total construction time is planned to be 12 months. “La Termal” exemplifies cutting-edge sustainable construction, reinforcing La Garriga’s position as a European leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
The REN+HOMES project, funded by the European Union, aims to develop a universal methodology for promoting Positive Energy Buildings across Europe. “La Termal” is one of two European pilot projects selected to test and validate innovative solutions for sustainable housing.
